bump, set, spike

Today I had my crabby pants on. So I got through my classes came home and took a nice nap. I woke up put my gym stuff on and dragged myself there hoping it would make me feel better.  I got a nice 4 mile run in....when I was leaving I peaked my head into the gym and saw a game of volleyball being played by students.  I was not ready to go back to King David because since my computer is still sick there is not much to do beside watch Thai MTV, BBC World News, or CNN.  Oh yea and STAR movie channel...which always has scary movies on at night so that not really my cup of tea.

Sooo back to volleyball. I stood in the corner of the gym and watched them play.  Some of them were pretty good!  Most times it was a solid bump, set, spike volley going on back and forth.  My favorite was the one girl who was playing. She was dancing around the whole time. She probably weighed about 90 lbs and flitted around the court. Between each serve she would blow kisses to the teams and to the stands (which no one was in by the way...) then she would twirl and skip then overhand serve to the other team. A real piece of work this one.

I WANTED TO PLAY

So I lurked around until the game was over. When it was over I asked if they played every Wednesday night and to my luck they said yes!  I even got in on the second game with them. So much fun. They mostly spoke Thai but one kid, Kryptonite, would update me on the score in English.  They all knew how to speak English because they told me they had already passed all levels....sooooo I now have some new friends that will not only let me play volleyball with them on Monday and Wednesdays but also said they would help me speak THAI! I am very excited about this and hope that I gain some sweet new skills over here so I can return and tear up beach volleyball chi-town style in a few summers...I mean maybe go pro....join the U.S. Team???  I will think about it......I mean it could happen......

The only thing that scares me is they have KILLER spikes.....these guys almost took my head off a few times then would WAI to me and say "AAAAhhhh sorry Ajarn"  hmmm I DON'T think they were trying too.....but maybe they were....none of them were my actual students so I would like to say they were just playing a friendly match of volleyball.  I also asked,  "please....don't call me Ajarn out here on the court, this is all in fun"  Having students bow to me and say sorry just takes some fun out of it! HA!

I will be spiking like a pro and speaking Thai in no time!
